Tenam Puente
How to get there:
Chiapas is a state that is located in the southeast of the Mexican republic, bordered by Tabasco, Oaxaca, Veracruz, the
Pacific Ocean, and the republic of Guatemala. To get to Tenam Puente you can only arrive by land, using the highway
out of Tuxtla Gutierrez, the state capital, heading to Comitan. Just 10 kilometers south of the city you will find the dirt
road that leads to the archaeological site.
This Maya site of the classic era, is 10 kilometers from Comitan,
on a hill that was modified to create a series of terraces on which
the buildings, squares, and ball courts are distributed. Singular, is
the cut of the calcareous stones used in its construction, perfectly
ensembled and fit, without mortar or plaster. From Tenam Puente,
you have an exceptional panoramic view of the Comitan plains.
The landscape is richened by the presence of trees covered with
epiphytal plants, whose growth is favoured by the humidity that the
hills capture from the winds. Today the National Institute of
Anthropology and History, maintains a rescue program of this
archaeological zone.
